Officially Official: 2011 Volkswagen Touareg [w/videos] thumbnail

Filed under: Hybrid , SUV , Volkswagen , Diesel 2011 Volkswagen Touareg – Click above for high-res image gallery We weren’t expecting to see the new second generation Volkswagen Touareg until the beginning of March at the Geneva Motor Show , but VW rolled out its big SUV at an event in Munich earlier today. The basic shape and proportions of the exterior haven’t changed much, but the body sides are now more sculpted than before, making it a bit more planted and – dare we say – sporty. At the front the Touareg has picked up the new horizontal VW family face that debuted on the latest Golf and Polo , finally discarding the more vertical and heavily chromed fascia of the original.

Yamaha pulls the covers off 2010 FZ8 naked sportbike thumbnail

Filed under: Motorcycle The upper-middleweight naked bike segment, which currently has entrants from the likes of BMW , Aprilia and Ducati , is about to get an good ol’ injection of Japanese know-how as Yamaha readies its upcoming new FZ8 for production. Yamaha apparently sees room for a machine that splits the difference between the smaller FZ6 (and FZ6R ) and the full FZ1 naked literbike. As far as we’re aware, Yamaha has confirmed neither the FZ8 nor its fully-faired FZ8R sibling for North America (we’ll keep you posted), but it seems possible the models could make it Stateside if there’s sufficient interest…

Spy Shots: 2011 Volkswagen Touareg revealed in diecast form? thumbnail

Filed under: Spy Photos , SUV , Geneva Motor Show , Volkswagen Between patent offices, surreptitious shipping company videos, and Marussias being left uncovered on the back of a truck in a traffic jam, lately we’ve been coming across all manner of ways for new cars to be accidentally revealed ahead-of-schedule. Here’s another: a German model car company has let slip images of what looks like the next Volkswagen Touareg , which is actually meant to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show . The box is labeled “VW Touareg 2010,” but the supplementary text mentions the fourth quarter of this year, and a quick look at the front of the SUV makes it plain that this isn’t the current off-roader

Report: Mahindra looks to import Scorpio SUV by end of 2010 thumbnail

Filed under: SUV , India , Diesel , MISC Mahindra has had its fair share of issues and delays in bringing its TR20 and TR40 diesel-powered compact pickup trucks to market here in the United States, but it seems that experience hasn’t turned the Indian automaker off from a planned launch of its Scorpio SUV in America by the end of this year. Considering the short timetable, we would imagine the U.S.-bound Scorpio wouldn’t differ too greatly from the model that’s available in other parts of the world, but Inside Line reports (without offering sources) that a new unibody version is in the works that could replace the body-on-frame design used at present.

Filed under: Car Buying , Concept Cars , Marketing/Advertising , Aston Martin , Toyota , Design/Style Aston Martin Cygnet – Click above for high-res image gallery There are few automakers on earth as exclusive as Aston Martin , so we were more than a little surprised when the English exoticmaker announced it was going to build the Cygnet , a city car based on the prosaic Toyota iQ . After all, we chastise automakers for rebadging all the time, but Ford , Honda and General Motors products don’t have anywhere near the exclusivity of Aston Martin. Then there is the Cygnet’s reported $35,000 price tag
